#11 My Elit Update&Quing’s Quest&Like Stars in a Clear Night Sky

Greeting! I finally figured out how to use Prezi classic to create my elit! I was lost about the digital tool I could use. I thought to use Twine, Flash or Quest, but they couldn’t meet my requirements for audio, visuality, and interactions. Prezi has many models programmed by Flash, so I don’t have to worry about programming. I only have to put all my materials on it. Prezi Classic and Prezi Next are different versions. I tried Prezi Next whose models are awesome but cost much money. SO I use Prezi Classic. I am on it…

When IScreenshot_5 click those hyperlinks, they will alter to a bigger and brighter font.As I am designing my elit piece, I would read it as a designer and admire its fabulous creativity.

It’s a quiet beautiful piece! The most amazing thing is it gives me a new sensation: beauty, peace, and profoundness. It’s very different to create readers’ perception in that accurate way by music, poetry, and images. That’s what I am trying to do!

# 10 Elit Reading & Workupdate:Speparation&My Timeline

First thing first, my elit piece is in the progress. I created my “Final Project” folder. It is like a food pantry where I could put my “prey”. This idea comes from our classmates’ blogs and I appreaciate the contrbution very much.  Screenshot_3

The time is limited.  I need time to plan my project, collect materials, programme and have a final editting. I am also considering the way to show my piece so that my readers may find it intriguious. Hence, I made a timeline:

Separation

It is a compelling piece. It points out the contradition between our work and computer: people suffer from Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) becuase of the wrong  way to use the computer.

I was curious about RSI, so I did some studies:

“Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is a general term used to describe the pain felt in muscles, nerves and tendons caused by repetitive movement and overuse.”

Awwww… I felt I have same symptoms!

“The condition mostly affects parts of the upper body, such as the:

  • forearms and elbows
  • wrists and hands
  • neck and shoulders”

Yeah… My neck has some problems…(Want know more? https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/repetitive-strain-injury-rsi/) Ok, that’s interesting. So I played a little while:

I am very impetuous person. I was so impatient to what is going on on the screen. You want me to read words at this slow pace? No way!

SO I RECIEVE THE WARMING a couple of times:

The practice is quite funny.  I was sitting in the dining hall and people saw me opening mouse and lifting eyebrows… They might be scared by me. Haha

As the auhor says, “The visitors of Separation / Séparation are compelled to click slowly (as someone recovering from RSI) in order to see how words appear, one by one. Every now and then an exercise for an RSI patient is proposed and all interaction with the computer is postponed.” It reminds of ScareLetter that deals with the privacy insulting. I couldn’t say such programs can make a big difference. Either Separation or SL is not a cure for people who suffered from those issues. However, they show efforts and present a unique voice to ignorance. They are the brave soul to arise new awareness of the socity.

That is what we can do – as a writer and elit author. The elit is a window  in the darkness where sunlight comes in. Thanks to the reading! It gives me new ideas and I would like to put the perspectives in my elit.

 

 

#9 Elit Reading&Spark: Cruising & My New Ideas

As a reader, I enjoy the piece Cruising. It doesn’t like a game that could negative and surprise me well. But It provides a disparate integration between readers and the author: DRIVE YOU TEXTS.

SOUNDS INTERESTING, ISN’T IT?

When I opened it, I heard a soft voice telling a story – a teenage girl speaking her “favorite pastime in small-town Wisconsin, racing up and down the main drag of Main Street looking to make connections, wanting love”.

There is only a scene on the piece: the girl is looking outside the window and making her lip color. A flash line flies below, the same word and the images repeat.

The author gave a few materials but there are more to explore. When I move my mouse to the flash line, it became slower or faster sometimes. When I move to the right, the images and texts became larger. But what interesting is I cannot really stop it and read the poem. But the pace of the flash, the music, and audio, the black and white picture, give me a sensation of the girl’s memory and…

My memory.

Something important can dominate, while something less important can be forgotten. But all big and small pieces make up my memory. One day I may recall them. I may find the less important things become important. I may miss great things. I may retaste what I went through. That’s what the poem gives me: a physical sensation and spiritual imagination.


The piece let me think of the form of poetry. It is unique because it should be stanzas and no paragraphs. However, when I enlarge those texts, I find they are complete sentences. They are not “poetic poem” but we still can read them as a poem. The flash line fluids to us word by word, line by line. The texts are broken and my perception becomes different. It is our readers who can decide how to read those lines.

You can say it tricky or creative. But the power of literature is to change the ways to read and give different understandings based on the same texts. That is what an elit is doing. It is exciting that we would have 10 different feelings after 10 times of similar reading. In other words, elit is disgusting the potential of traditional literature.


It inspires me! I am collecting my elit components. When I listen to Rachmaninoff again and again, I create different feelings. I hope my readers do not be restricted to the same framework although the music has a certain theme. Now my texts include Shakespeares’ poems and dramas, Wilde’s poems, and some space that readers can write their owns. The biggest progress is I discover a charm of opera and I want to use some in my piece. Opera is choir literature and many of them are quite fun.

#8 Eilt-Reading: Icarus Needs

Firstly, Lexia to Preplexia couldn’t be opened on my Mac because the screen doesn’t fit. But I found a video discussing the piece:

Mark Sample( the speaker in the video) said the work is a specific time of technology and technology has changed so it’s problematic to the piece. That may explain why I couldn’t open it. What I interest in Lexia to Perplexia is “Terms such as “metastrophe’ and ‘intertimacy’ work as sparks within the piece and are meant to inspire further thought and exploration.” SO I cannot wait to go through it in the class.


The piece Icarus Needs is presented as an ” a hypercomic adventure game staring everyone’s favourite mentally unhinged cartoonist, Icarus Creeps”. What needs to be discussed is ” It is literature?”. Beyond a plot in the game, I wonder it is readable or gives any literary experience to a reader. I would like to go through the piece under this question.

It is interesting to play, I have to admit. Icarus would meet different people and have different instructions to find Kit. When he finds new tools, a new trail would open to him. I passed the green, blue, yellow, and pink trials, and them eventually come to the same end.

The protagonist and antagonists would have conversations, a player would know what going on next through conversations and they could go anywhere to get materials.

The plot is simple: “Icarus has fallen asleep playing video games and become trapped inside a surreal dream world that’s part video game and part comic strip. What’s worse, somehow his girlfriend Kit has got trapped inside the same dream. Now Icarus needs to locate Kit, escape the clutches of the King of Squirrels and find some way back to the waking world. Can you get Icarus everything he needs before it’s too late?”

Personally, I don’t think it is presented as either literature or a reconstructing piece. Most importantly, it isn’t effective as a cyber reader and I would rather regard it as a recreation.

 

#7 Spark: Reauthoring Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dance

While I was reading pieces like ” Hi Muck A Muck”, “Pieces of Herself”, and “Reconstructing Mayakovsky”, I had fun playing and constructing my own “classic”. If I am going to be an elit writer, I wish my readers to engage in my work. They are more like co-authors rather than receivers. We should all enjoy the collaboration of interpreting and constructing a brand new piece. So I am considering reconstructing existed literature and artwork to fulfill my elit project.

I was studying hermeneutics, which is a study of interpretation. I respect all different understandings based on different grounds, lives, or experiences, whereas, a person’s understanding of both literature and art is distinguished and reaches out different stages. That means a person could not get to a higher level individually unless he or she accesses to others’ perspectives, a high-level thought or instructional techniques,  which are able to force he or her to understand in depth. Therefore, my goal is to bring up necessary elements and art pieces together, construct a framework based on my own understanding, and invite my readers to sew those pieces and accumulate their intelligence. I am looking forward to collect different masterpieces from my readers and exhibit them in my blogs.

My elit theme is “Reauthoring Rachmaninoff-Symphonic-Dances“. Sergi Rachmaninoff was a Russian symphonic composer.Sergei_Rachmaninoff_cph.3a40575 Readers probably did not hear about him and his music, but in my elite, it is a good begining that they approach a musician without any preparation, because they would gradually realize how close they are to Rachmaninoff and Symphonic Dances by exploring my elit.

My elementary idea is that readers are going to follow the melody, clicking their expected literature, paintings, graffiti, or photography, or adding pitches or music pieces into the symphony, and create their own “imagery”. This idea comes from my fine art class. Prof. McLaughlin requested us to draw anything jumping out our mind while we were listening to Pop, Jazz, Blue, or orchestra music. I was doing intensive drawings and I felt I could control melody at my fingertips. I had never ever expressed out so many feelings and visualized them on my papers. That was an amazing experience.

Reading elit is a discovery. What I mean by saying ” not receivers” in my opening paragraph is that readers are going to discover themselves. They are not just sitting right there and being given literature and art, rather, they are feeling new. I hope I hear words like ” I didn’t think I would love art but I do now” or ” I found I can be that talented and creative in art”. I hope they feel the same as I did and feel free to express themselves and discover their own potentials. Therefore, it does not matter if readers have a little knowledge of my elit objects, I am going to give enough instructions as well as space for them to join my “party”.

I am still planning my elit and I am not sure about elements I am going to use. Here is a map showing a rough storyboarding and element options:

Selecting elements is complex. I drew different shapes on behalf of element styles, which means I would provide disparate art and literature work, but you may find them unexpectedly harmonious.

“With Those We Love Alive”&”High Muck A Muck”

“With Those We Love Alive”- a visual adanvature without visuality

My first feeling when I played with it is ” It is so smart!” and “Maybe I can make one”. It is a twine game that readers are able to be physically involed in the plot, and whatever they choose, it will change the plot. A reader is also a writer.

Basiclly, I can read a fundanmental framwork set by the author.  Whatever I chose, I would have same hyperlinks to go. “Balcony”,”Your chambers”, “Garden”, “Workshop” and “City” are a basic trial.

What I found interetsting is there are more possibilities we can create. We are able to connect or embed ourselves in the plot by mixing our personalities into it. When I went to some hyperlinks, I found they are optional when I clicked them, I could choose  the month of my birth, my elements, my eye color, the equipment and materials I had. It’s very intriguous because it comes different consequencies based on different choices.

Compared with former pieces, “With those we love alive” is not surprising. It has basic features of an elite and the interactions are not advanced. It is not bothered by techniques, and is pure and reable literature. But it is meaningful in the time when we are beginning our first elit. WHY COULD NOT I MAKE A PIECE LIKE THAT? Even though I am a not skillful programmer and I don’t know how to visualize my elit, I can still make an excellent piece! The piece inspires me a lot and I am happy to see more possibilities.

“Hi Muck A Muck: Play Chinese an Interative Poem”- I am proud of  seeing my language shown in elite.

I love the piece.

It is so culture-related. The first page and navigation are touching. It is a man who is reading his language, missing his home. His tears as well as his emotion is an direction for us to read the piece.

When I heared the audio, they talk about China Town and Chinese women are not allowed. I was so upset and I can understand how difficult Chinese immigrantes are in foreign countries. The background music is from a restaurant nosie to a flute, which illustrates the life of a China Town and people’s strong emotion – nostalgia.

The page touches me – my land is my body. You may see rivers,  moutains, and  poetry on an human body. They represent “my” homeland and “my” culture. “My blood is China, which makes me who I am”. Especially when Chinese are away from thier land, we carry with our indentities everywhere. China is our nature.

It is an emtional piece. I am deeply touched by every pages. It not only shows “a deep engagement with issues of racism, intercultural exchange, imitation, history, economics, and Chinese immigration to Canada”, but also it tells a story, a life story, about every Chinese away from our country and  every Chinese who are missing thier country. I can find myself in it.

Pieces of Herself & Façade

“Pieces of Herself”

I love the piece! Truly! It reminds me a poem:

 I Leave Bits of Me Everywhere
poem-words are my clothing, 
stripped late at night 
a trail from the threshold to the foot of bed 
along the stairs lay verbs the actions i need to climb twelve steps at 2 am 
a vowel left adjacent to toothbrush i get sloppy with tartar and allusions 
over the cornice of mirror, hangs a strand of pearly metaphors 
a simile in my sink 
a limerick needing to be laundered the clothes hamper is full of rimes & meters in want of mending 
kick off the shoes, 
make a pile of cacophony wrap myself in the plum flannel of sonnet

find the resting place for naked poet...  
in ambiance i light a candle 
a sestina goes up in flames.

The piece is a sort of reinterpretation. They are real pieces with which you can made up and know a person.  But this time, it is not “pieces of her”, but “pieces of herself”. Find the secrets? Because you are not going to find the original “her” but create a new “her”.

You can choose from seven scenes. My favorite is the “outside”. When I grabbed a little baby in the street, the old song “When I was a little girl” rose.  I can see her childhood, she played in the yard and enjoyed sun. It is so imagery.

 

 

“Façade”

There is a technical problem for me, I cannot download the exe.file. But except the technical complexity, it is a very smart piece.

I cannot move in! That’s disappointing. It may be something wrong with my computer. But many players show their processes on YouTube.

They are creative but a little bit dark (lol).

This piece maximizes the interaction between elite and readers. It is very intelligent design and requests a high technical level.  It is more close to artificial intelligence, like Siri, but it is a insightful approach to produce elites.
